A Local Practice Pymble Families Come Back To

Every age of a Pymble household is looked after by the same team, visit after visit, from a child’s first check-up to a grandparent’s next appointment.

Dr Jeremy Hockey, principal dentist at St Ives Smiles

“Good dentistry isn’t about telling people what to do. It’s about giving you a clear picture of your options, then supporting the path that’s right for you.”

Dr Jeremy Hockey, principal dentist

Nervous about a visit?

For anxious appointments we offer happy gas and oral sedation in-house, plus IV sedation with a visiting sedationist for longer work. There are options to suit how you’re feeling on the day.

Thinking about your smile?

We offer teeth whitening, veneers and clear aligners such as Invisalign, with a digital preview so you can see the plan before deciding to go ahead.

Replacing missing teeth?

Implants are planned here with a 3D CBCT scanner, and Dr Jeremy Hockey holds a Fellowship of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (FICOI). Bone grafting and sinus lifts are handled here too where needed.

Looking after the kids too?

We see children of every age alongside the rest of the family, giving little ones the time they need to feel comfortable, and accept the Child Dental Benefits Schedule for eligible kids.

Keeping more under one roof?

From routine check-ups to wisdom teeth removal, crowns, implants and orthodontics, a lot is handled here at the practice, so less ends up being referred elsewhere and your history stays in one place. Complex cases are still referred case by case.

Keeping an eye on cost?

We claim through HICAPS on the spot, accept the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, and offer payment plans in-house or through humm, with the cost talked through before anything goes ahead.

Something urgent?

A knocked, chipped or aching tooth should not wait. We keep time for same-day emergencies, with a dedicated line on 0422 270 577.

A team that has been here for decades?

Formerly Dr Bentley Sacks’ Dental Surgery, we have cared for local families for over 30 years, so familiar faces get to know your family as the years go by.

Who You’ll See at the Practice

Dr Jeremy Hockey and Ms Theresa Tran-Nguyen have owned and run St Ives Smiles since 2022, leading a team that still includes founding dentist Dr Bentley Sacks. Previously known as Dr Bentley Sacks’ Dental Surgery, we are a long-standing dental practice of over 30 years, caring for the North Shore from St Ives. Dr Hockey also holds a Fellowship of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (FICOI).

Most visits start with general dentistry for the whole family, the check-ups, cleans and fillings that keep a family’s teeth healthy, alongside cosmetic dentistry, plus dental implants. If something goes wrong, emergency dentistry is fitted in the same day where possible.

From our home in St Ives, we also look after Gordon, families in Turramurra and nearby Wahroonga. See areas we serve, our the wider North Shore practice page, or our dentist in St Ives home page.

At St Ives Smiles Dentistry, we aim to provide you with quality and caring dental service whilst incorporating the ever evolving modern age of dentistry.

Pymble Patients Frequently Ask

What can I expect at my first appointment?
Your first visit is usually a check-up and clean, with any X-rays we need, so we can get to know your teeth and talk through anything you would like to look at. We explain what we find in plain language and only suggest treatment that makes sense for you.
What do treatments cost at St Ives Smiles?

A guide to some common treatments:

  • Check-up: comprehensive exam with X-rays from $191, scale and polish from $180
  • Dental implant: single tooth with crown from $6,000, consultation from $360
  • Teeth whitening: take-home kit from $450, in-chair from $650
  • Invisalign: full treatment from $8,500, consultation from $500
  • Veneers: composite from $650, porcelain from $2,300
  • Wisdom tooth removal: simple from $300, surgical from $530

HICAPS is available on the spot, the Child Dental Benefits Schedule applies for eligible children, and payment plans are available in-house or through humm.

How often should I have a dental check-up?
Healthdirect Australia and the Australian Dental Association recommend a check-up every 6 to 12 months for most people, even without any symptoms. That’s an aim rather than a fixed rule, since a dentist may recommend a different interval once they’ve seen a patient’s own teeth and gums.
When should my child first see a dentist?
Healthdirect Australia recommends bringing children in for their first dental check-up by their first birthday, or as soon as their first tooth appears, whichever comes first, with regular check-ups continuing after that.
Does St Ives Smiles accept CDBS for Pymble families?
Yes. Reception checks CDBS eligibility and the remaining benefit at the appointment, and the scheme covers a defined list of basic services: check-ups, X-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions, though orthodontic treatment and anything cosmetic sit outside it. Eligibility depends on three things lining up in the same calendar year: Medicare cover, being aged 0 to 17 for at least part of that year, and a parent or carer receiving a qualifying payment, Family Tax Benefit Part A being the one most families already get, though it is not the only payment that counts. Nothing needs to be applied for separately; eligible families are sent a letter.
What are your opening hours?
The practice is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30am to 5pm, Wednesday from 9am to 4pm, and Saturday by appointment. Sunday is closed.
Do you remove wisdom teeth in-house, or will I be referred?
We remove wisdom teeth here at the practice rather than sending you across Sydney, with 3D scanning to plan the procedure and sedation options if you would feel more comfortable. More complex cases are always talked through with you first.
Are you accepting new patients from Pymble?
Yes, we welcome new patients from Pymble and across the Upper North Shore. Book online or call (02) 9488 8378, and reception can talk you through the drive.
How far is St Ives Smiles from Pymble, and how do I get there?
We’re a short drive from Pymble, about 5 to 7 km up Mona Vale Road, with free on-site parking at the door. West Pymble is only a few minutes further.
Can I reach you easily from West Pymble?
Yes. West Pymble is only a little further than central Pymble, via Mona Vale Road and Killeaton Street, and the same free on-site parking is waiting when you arrive.
Is there a direct bus from Pymble to St Ives?
Not an all-day one, so most Pymble patients drive. If you prefer public transport, Pymble Station is one stop to Gordon on the T1 North Shore Line, where bus 195 or 582 continues toward St Ives.
Is parking easy when I drive in from Pymble?
Yes. There is free on-site parking right at the practice, so you can pull in and park without hunting for a spot, which keeps the trip from Pymble simple even with children along.
